The Met Department has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of South Bengal starting from September 9, attributing this to a low-pressure area expected to intensify into a depression.
The low-pressure area currently over the north Bay of Bengal will likely move northwards and become a depression, affecting Gangetic West Bengal and neighboring regions.
Heavy rainfall is predicted for districts including East and West Midnapore, and North and South 24 Parganas on September 9 and 10, while other districts may see light to moderate rains. Fishermen are advised to avoid the sea along the West Bengal-Odisha coasts from September 8 to 10 due to anticipated squally weather with surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph.
