Tragic Pharma Plant Explosion in Andhra Pradesh

A lethal fire and explosion tore through the Escientia Advanced Science Pvt Ltd plant in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, resulting in 17 fatalities and injuries to 33 individuals. The incident occurred around 2:15 pm during lunchtime, reducing the potential for even greater casualties.

Anakapalli district collector Vijaya Krishnan indicated that the fire appears to have stemmed from electrical issues. Following the explosion, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu ordered a high-level investigation and assured stringent actions if negligence is found to be a factor. Naidu is scheduled to visit the site and meet with affected families.

Production at the pharma plant began in April 2019 with a significant investment of Rs 200 crore. The facility, located in APIIC's multi-product SEZ, employs 381 individuals. Injured workers were quickly transported to nearby hospitals, and 13 individuals trapped inside the unit were rescued. Emergency responses are being coordinated to provide optimal medical care, including potential airlifting of patients.
