The meteorological centre has issued an 'orange' alert for heavy to very heavy rains, thunderstorms, and lightning in Una, Kangra, and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. A 'yellow' alert remains for heavy rain in isolated places in the state until August 9.
Flash floods and landslides, triggered by days of relentless rain, have forced the closure of 75 roads in various regions of Himachal, the state emergency operation centre reported on Monday evening.
Over the past week, the hill state has faced severe rain, resulting in the death of 14 individuals due to flash floods caused by cloudbursts in Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts on July 31. Additionally, 40 people are still missing. Road closures are also significant, with 30 roads shut in Kullu, 17 in Mandi, 10 in Lahaul and Spiti, and several others affected in different districts, as cited by the emergency response centre.
The infrastructure and public services have taken a massive hit. The weather also threatens flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas, posing risks to plantations, crops, weaker structures, and houses.
