A tragic incident occurred in West Bengal's Paschim Bardhaman district, where one person lost his life as his car was overtaken by water while crossing a submerged bridge, officials reported on Saturday.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem, sources confirmed. Despite warnings from locals, the driver attempted to cross the bridge, leading to this unfortunate outcome.
Torrential rains have caused extensive waterlogging in the districts of Paschim Bardhaman, Purba Bardhaman, and Kolkata. Flight operations at Kazi Nazrul Islam (KNI) airport were temporarily halted due to flooding. Additionally, swollen rivers have submerged temporary bridges, with the Kankalitala Temple's sanctum sanctorum also underwater since Thursday. Efforts to drain water in key areas like Salt Lake City's IT hub are underway, with authorities deploying pumps to mitigate the situation.
