Two individuals, including a woman, were killed in separate elephant attacks in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district, as confirmed by a forest official on Sunday.

A septuagenarian man was crushed to death by an elephant while relieving himself in a forest near Chauthia village early on Sunday morning. The elephant dragged him before killing him.

In another incident, an elderly woman, Baso Hansdah, was killed when her house wall collapsed under the attack of a wild elephant in Dighi village late Saturday night. The widow was sleeping when the pachyderm broke the wall.

Divisional Forest Officer (Dhalbhum) Saba Alam Ansari confirmed both incidents and stated that details are awaited. A forest department team has rushed to investigate the incidents.

Villagers, enraged by the attacks, blocked the Chakulia-Matiyana main road on Sunday, demanding adequate compensation. Forest department officials and police assured to address their demands, said SDPO (Ghatsila) Ajit Kumar Kujjur.

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
