Haryana is poised to lead a groundbreaking green initiative with the establishment of two waste-to-charcoal plants, also known as green coal plants, in Faridabad and Gurugram. The project, sanctioned by the central government, will be the first of its kind in the country.

The memorandum of understanding for this project was signed between NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVNL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, and the Municipal Corporations of Gurugram and Faridabad. The signing event was graced by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Minister of State for Urban Local Bodies Subhash Sudha.

According to the agreement, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVNL) will spearhead the establishment of these plants under the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. The green coal plants will be set up at a cost of approximately Rs 500 crore each and will convert 1,500 tonnes of waste daily from Gurugram and Faridabad into charcoal. The project is expected to be completed within 30 months and will utilize indigenous technology. This initiative also aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat campaign.
