Germany's Greens announced on Monday that they will not support the debt reforms proposed by the conservatives and Social Democrats (SPD), potentially stalling critical legislative changes.
"We will advise members of our parliamentary group to oppose these amendments," Green co-leader Katharina Droege stated at a press conference, accompanied by fellow co-leader Britta Hasselmann.
The conservatives and SPD need the Greens' cooperation to form a coalition after a recent election. Their backing is essential for securing a two-thirds parliamentary majority to pass reforms, which include a 500 billion euro infrastructure fund and changes to the debt brake.
