In a surprising move, Russia and Ukraine have brokered a temporary ceasefire concerning attacks on critical energy infrastructures. The targets under protection include oil refineries, gas pipelines, and nuclear stations, among others, announced the Kremlin on Tuesday.
The agreement also encompasses fuel storage facilities, pumping stations, and electricity infrastructure—power plants, substations, transformers, distributors, and hydroelectric dams—indicating a comprehensive effort to mitigate potential escalations affecting energy sectors.
Set to commence on March 18 for an initial 30-day period, the moratorium can be extended beyond its expiration through bilateral consensus. Notably, any violation of the agreement by either nation will permit the other to disengage from compliance, stated the Kremlin.
