In a mounting political confrontation, Opposition leader and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari has leveled serious accusations against the West Bengal government for allegedly obstructing land acquisition efforts for BSF outposts along the Bangladesh border. Adhikari outlined instances of non-cooperation by the state with the central government and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
According to Adhikari, joint meetings are not occurring, coordination with central agencies is lacking, and intruders caught by BSF have been released by state police. He alleged that political interference is hampering national and community interests. Moreover, he claimed the state police are shielding transborder criminals linked to the ruling party.
Despite the Centre's efforts to collaborate with the state, Adhikari noted significant gaps in border fencing. With only 1,647.446 km out of 2,216.7 km of the border fenced, crucial land acquisition processes are stalled. He also accused the state police of failing to prevent cross-border crimes, including drug and cattle smuggling.
