President William Ruto has issued a strong warning to contractors failing to meet deadlines for critical government projects, signaling his administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises to Kenyans.

Speaking in Kisii while inspecting the construction of the Kisii Cancer Centre, the President expressed frustration with the slow progress of the project, which is expected to play a pivotal role in improving healthcare access in the region.

“There are many contractors who are letting us down, and we will not allow them. This is the year for delivering our agenda as planned,” President Ruto stated emphatically.

Kisii Cancer Centre: A Symbol of Government Priorities

The Kisii Cancer Centre is part of the government’s broader healthcare reform agenda, aiming to bring critical cancer treatment services closer to rural communities. However, delays in its completion have drawn the President’s ire.

“You have been paid all the money required. There is no reason whatsoever why this project is not progressing,” President Ruto told the contractor, adding that failure to meet the agreed timelines would result in contract termination.

The President’s remarks underscore the administration’s determination to hold contractors accountable and ensure public resources are utilized effectively.

Strengthened Oversight on Government Projects

President Ruto also revealed plans to introduce enhanced oversight mechanisms for government projects. These measures aim to monitor progress more closely and ensure transparency in the implementation of key initiatives.

“We cannot afford inefficiency when Kenyans are counting on us to deliver life-changing projects,” he said.

The government has pledged to fast-track other critical infrastructure projects, including the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Road and the Konza Technopolis.

A Commitment to Accelerating Development

In addition to addressing delays, the President reassured Kenyans that his administration is prioritizing healthcare, education, and infrastructure as key pillars of the country’s development agenda.

“We are focused on improving the lives of Kenyans. From healthcare to infrastructure, we will ensure that every promise we made is fulfilled,” he said.

Calls for Collaboration

President Ruto called on stakeholders, including local leaders and communities, to collaborate with the government in ensuring projects are completed successfully. “Development is a shared responsibility. Let’s work together to make our vision a reality,” he urged.
