In a significant development during the Meerapur assembly seat bypoll campaign, a Samajwadi Party vehicle was seized on Tuesday for carrying the party flag, contravening the model code of conduct, authorities reported.
The vehicle was part of a convoy led by former MP and SP leader Kadir Rana, aimed at supporting his daughter-in-law Sumbul Rana's candidacy from Meerapur. Circle Officer Ravishankar confirmed the seizure, citing election norm violations.
As the incident unfolds, a video has gone viral showing Kadir Rana in a heated exchange with the police post-seizure. Meanwhile, Sumbul Rana lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging coercion of SP workers by local police to support rival candidates. Campaign tensions rise as the November 20 bypolls approach, with SP and BSP strategizing for the upcoming contest in Uttar Pradesh's nine assembly seats.
