In a dramatic display of solidarity, students across Imphal Valley formed human chains outside their schools and colleges to protest the alleged abduction of three women and three children by armed tribal militants in Jiribam district.
Holding black flags and wearing black badges, the protestors demanded the immediate and safe release of the hostages. They urged central and state government action while holding placards inscribed with motions like 'Today is Children's Day, release the innocent children' and 'Release our friends'. The protests were organized by COCOMI Students Front, representing the Meitei community.
According to Thounaojam Thadoi, a Class 11 student from TG Higher Secondary School, the situation marked a somber Children's Day for Manipur. Police have announced ongoing operations to locate and rescue the abducted individuals. Ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo groups has already resulted in over 200 deaths and the displacement of thousands.
