Tensions flared in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House during the mayoral election as Congress councillors clashed over the abbreviated tenure planned for a Dalit mayor. The session sparked a heated exchange between political factions, leaving proceedings in disarray.
The controversy ignited as presiding officer Satya Sharma commenced the electoral process. Nazia Dhanish, Congress Leader of the Party (LOP), swiftly expressed dissatisfaction with the reduced term, accusing the sitting mayor of overstaying and undermining the Dalit community's representation.
Amid rising tempers, Congress councillors moved into the well of the House, demanding clarity from Sharma. Despite efforts to restore order, both Congress and AAP members engaged in a slogan showdown, disrupting the proceedings with chants like "Dalit Virodhi Kejriwal Sarkar" countered by "Kejriwal Zindabad."
