Karnataka Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan ignited controversy by referring to Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy as 'Kaaliya', a term considered racially insensitive, during a rally. The JD(S) party, reacting fiercely, called for the minister's dismissal, branding the statement as a blatant racist slur.
Khan, defending his words, clarified he never meant to offend Kumaraswamy, whom he addressed as 'Kariyanna' (black brother) out of friendship, while alleging Kumaraswamy once called him 'Kulla' (dwarf). At a rally, Khan claimed that Kumaraswamy dismissed the need for Muslim votes.
As debate ensued, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned Khan's remarks, likening them to other racially charged comments within political circles. Despite the uproar, Khan emphasized his longstanding personal rapport with Kumaraswamy and denied any malicious intent behind his words.
