The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala found itself in hot water on Sunday when its official Facebook page briefly displayed a campaign video supporting UDF candidate Rahul Mamkootathil, contesting in the Palakkad Assembly constituency.
Initially, the district leadership disassociated from the page, suggesting it wasn't their official outlet. However, they later clarified the page had been hacked, leading to the controversial post. KP Udayabhanu, CPI(M)'s Pathanamthitta district secretary, confirmed the incident was discovered via media reports and intended to spark controversy.
The unauthorized content was swiftly removed and authorities were notified. The BJP seized on the incident, claiming it indicated a potential 'deal' between the LDF and UDF for the November bypolls. Elections are set for November 13 in Wayanad and Chelakkara, followed by Palakkad on November 20.
