Israel's Bold Raid Stymies Missile Production in Syria

In September, Israel's special forces executed a raid on a Syrian missile production site near Masyaf. The facility, linked to Iranian-backed Hezbollah, was dismantled, thwarting plans to produce precision missiles. In a meticulously planned operation, Israel's military special forces targeted an underground missile production site in Syria last month. The facility, located near Masyaf, was being primed to manufacture hundreds of precision-guided missiles for Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militia group operating against Israel.

Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani revealed that the site was a central hub for Iran's regional manufacturing ambitions. Since its construction in 2017, Israeli intelligence had observed the site becoming capable of producing strategic missiles with ranges up to 300 kilometers. The timing of the raid was critical as this new threat emerged.

While details of the covert Sept. 8 operation had circulated in the media, Shoshani's recent confirmation highlights its significance. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the operation, emphasizing its importance in halting the flow of weapons to Hezbollah. The complex nighttime raid saw dozens of aircraft and around 100 troops involved, culminating in the dismantling of the facility.
