Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reinforced his commitment to upholding farmers' land rights during a press conference on Wednesday amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Waqf land claims. He clarified that no eviction notices have been issued to farmers residing on contested lands, despite allegations to the contrary. This statement followed his earlier participation in launching 20 new Airavata Club class 2.0 buses in Bengaluru alongside Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Adding to the discourse, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicizing the land issue, which is causing distress among farmers in key districts. He assured that directions have been given to the revenue department to halt any coercive actions, emphasizing that farmers would retain their right to the land they have long possessed.
The Waqf land claim controversy has sparked significant concern among farmers in the Vijayapura, Yadgir, and Dharwad districts, who fear losing their ancestral lands due to sudden changes in land records. Meanwhile, Home Minister G Parmeshwara stated the issue is nearing resolution, with the government committed to quashing any inappropriate notices previously issued.
