TMC member Kalyan Banerjee has accused BJP's Abhijit Gangopadhyay of provoking him during a parliamentary committee meeting on the Waqf Bill, leading to his one-day suspension for unruly conduct. Banerjee clarified he never intended to throw a broken glass bottle at the Chair, offering an apology.
The incident last week saw BJP MPs condemning Banerjee for allegedly hurling the glass bottle towards committee chairman Jagdambika Pal amid a heated debate. They demanded his suspension from the House and called for an FIR in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Banerjee conveyed his side of events, stating Gangopadhyay used abusive language that compelled his reaction. He criticized the Chair's leniency towards Gangopadhyay while being harsh on him, leading to his frustration. Banerjee injured his fingers when the bottle accidentally rolled towards the Chair.
