The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 has commenced dialogues with various stakeholders. Initiating its proceedings in Bhubaneswar, the committee engaged with representatives, including those from the Odisha government and social activists.
Jagdambika Pal, the panel's chairman, emphasized the importance of gathering insights from stakeholders. Despite opposition members boycotting the tour, the committee remains committed to incorporating diverse opinions into its report, due by the winter session's end. The opposition claims the chairperson has deemed their concerns as irrelevant.
Since August, extensive discussions have been held with various organizations. Dilip Saikia highlighted the significance of holding waqf boards accountable for managing properties. As the panel continues its nationwide tour, questions about governance and administration of waqf properties remain central.
