The Bhopal police have initiated an investigation after a video surfaced online, falsely accusing former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti of accepting a bribe. The video alleges that an IPS officer, disguised as a maid, managed to catch Bharti in the act.
The crime branch registered a case against the unknown individual responsible for uploading the video, following a formal complaint lodged by Bharti's personal secretary. The video, which also features pictures of Karnataka cadre IPS officer Roopa Divakar Moudgil, includes misleading commentary, sparking outrage among Bharti supporters.
Authorities said the clip is part of a deliberate attempt to tarnish the senior BJP leader's reputation. The case is filed under sections pertaining to the creation of false electronic records and defamation as per the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. Bharti had served as the state's chief minister from December 2003 to August 2004.
