In a significant political move, the Congress party declared on Thursday its decision not to field candidates in the anticipated Uttar Pradesh Assembly by-elections. Instead, the party will offer support to the Samajwadi Party, marking yet another tactical shift within the INDIA alliance.
Speaking at a press conference, Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey highlighted the urgency of the situation, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to undermine the constitutional framework and societal cohesion over the past decade. Pandey reiterated the Congress's commitment to protecting democratic values.
The announcement comes amid a flurry of political activities, including the Samvidhan Bachao Sankalp Sammelan, aimed at rallying support across various constituencies. The polls, scheduled for November 13, will test the unity and electoral strategy of the INDIA bloc against the BJP's formidable influence in Uttar Pradesh.
