C P Yogeeshwara, who recently stepped down from his role in the Karnataka Legislative Council, is set to join Congress, according to party sources. Yogeeshwara will be the Congress candidate for the Channapatna Assembly by-poll scheduled for November 13.

After resigning from BJP primary membership, Yogeeshwara met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. His resignation was submitted to the Legislative Council Chairman in Hubballi, signaling his intention to contest in the upcoming election.

The by-election in Channapatna, along with Sandur and Shiggaon, is necessitated by the election of H D Kumaraswamy to the Lok Sabha. The BJP ceded the Channapatna seat to JD(S), prompting Yogeeshwara to initially seek a ticket from the coalition, which was not realized, leading to his shift to Congress.
