In a decisive move to aid recovery efforts, US President Joe Biden on Wednesday approved Major Disaster Declarations for Missouri and Oregon. The federal assistance aims to support areas in Missouri devastated by storms and tornadoes during November, and Oregon regions affected by wildfires last summer.
The White House announced that the declaration ensures federal funding for state and eligible local governments, as well as certain private non-profit organizations, which will be provided on a cost-sharing basis to aid in emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by these natural calamities.
In Missouri, the aid targets counties including Carter, Crawford, and Howell, among others. Meanwhile, in Oregon, the recovery efforts will focus on counties such as Gilliam and Wheeler. Additionally, funding will be available for state-wide hazard mitigation across both states, reinforcing efforts to prevent future disasters.
