Moldova's recent elections have come under fire with accusations of unfair practices and external interference, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The voting process reportedly showed an unexplainable surge in support for President Maia Sandu and the European Union as counting proceeded.

The narrow majority of 50.46% in favor of Moldova joining the EU is being contested, with issues arising due to votes counted from Moldovan expatriates in Western countries. Peskov has criticized the election campaign as unfree, noting the opposition's inability to campaign and alleged repression by authorities.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova echoed disappointment over the election's outcome, pointing to the minimal support for EU integration among Moldovan residents. Allegations have also emerged against criminal groups and foreign entities attempting to manipulate votes, further complicating Moldova's political landscape.
