The Kremlin has voiced regret over being drawn into the U.S. election campaign, highlighting the already strained relations between Russia and Washington.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, current diplomatic ties are so poor that further involvement in U.S. domestic politics is unlikely to affect them significantly.

Peskov remarked that it was difficult to envision a scenario that could degrade the bilateral relations even further, given their existing low level.
