Five Naxalites were killed in a fierce gun battle with security forces in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, officials confirmed. The clash comes just a month before the state's assembly elections.
The operation was spearheaded by the elite C-60 commandos, who, along with the CRPF, confronted the Naxalites in a forest of Bhamragadh taluka. Intelligence reports had indicated a potential attack from the Maoist group gathering on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border.
The security personnel acted swiftly, engaging in an exchange of fire that led to the death of five Maoists. A press conference to disclose the identities of the deceased is scheduled for Tuesday, while a search operation continues in the area.
