In the wake of the tragic hooch incident in Bihar, which has resulted in 33 fatalities, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday labeled the incident as "unfortunate" while criticizing the state government led by Nitish Kumar. Yadav described the situation as deeply saddening, emphasizing the ineffectiveness of the government.
The calamity, with 28 deaths in Siwan and 5 in Saran, has ignited political tensions, sparking a debate over the success of the alcohol ban implemented by the ruling administration. Opposition figures are openly questioning the ban's efficacy in preventing such tragedies.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav targeted the ruling coalition, accusing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's liquor ban of fostering significant corruption within his government. Yadav alleges that a "parallel economy" worth Rs30,000 crore exists under Kumar's leadership, pointing to his contradictory stance on alcohol prohibition.
Echoing the urgency of the matter, Union Minister Chirag Paswan promised firm measures against those accountable for the tragedy. He assured that the government is rigorously investigating the incident, with several suspects already in custody. Paswan's statement underscores the administration's commitment to addressing this grave issue.
