Dynasties in the Fray: Next-Gen Bommais Enter Karnataka By-Polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Bharath Bommai as its candidate for the Shiggaon by-poll, marking the entry of another member from the Bommai family into the political landscape of Karnataka. Bharath, son of former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, continues the political legacy initiated by his grandfather, S R Bommai.

Alongside this, the party has fielded Bangaru Hanumanthu, leader of the BJP's Scheduled Tribes Morcha, from the Sandur Assembly segment. This strategic move signifies BJP's focus on bolstering its representation and appeal across varied community lines in the state.

Amidst these developments, the BJP-JD(S) alliance has left the discussion open regarding the Channapatna constituency, with speculations pointing towards Nikhil Kumaraswamy as a strong contender. The Congress, on its part, is contemplating returning Pathan Ahmed Khan in Shiggaon and possibly choosing E Tukaram's family member for Sandur or D K Suresh in Channapatna. These bypolls, necessary due to the MLAs' resignation post their Lok Sabha victories, are set to be a formidable contest in Karnataka's political sphere.
