Indian Youth Congress (IYC) activists staged a demonstration on Tuesday outside the residence of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, protesting against the electoral bond scheme.
Brandishing placards and chanting slogans, the protesters called for Sitharaman's resignation, with several individuals seen tossing mock currency notes toward the minister's house.
A complaint filed by Adarsh R Iyer, co-president of Janaadhikaara Sangharsha Parishath (JSP), led to a case against Sitharaman, Karnataka BJP chief B Y Vijayendra, and party leader Nalin Kumar Kateel. The complaint alleges extortion under the electoral bond scheme, suggesting the misappropriation of over Rs 8,000 crore with the help of Enforcement Directorate officials. The Supreme Court struck down the controversial scheme in February, citing violations of constitutional rights to information and freedom of expression.
