The ruling DMK party in Tamil Nadu has reiterated its strong opposition to the 'one nation, one election' plan proposed by the central government. DMK Organising Secretary RS Bharathi confirmed on Wednesday that the party would maintain its stance against the initiative, which has been contentious since it was first introduced.

On the other hand, the position of Tamil Nadu's main opposition party, the AIADMK, remains ambiguous. AIADMK spokesperson RM Babu Murugavel refrained from explicitly supporting or opposing the proposal, stating that there is still a long way to go before a final decision is made, considering the required amendments and technicalities.

Despite the polarized opinions, the union government has taken a significant step forward. On Wednesday, it accepted a high-level panel's recommendations to implement the 'one nation, one election' plan through phased, simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies, pending a consensus-building process across the country.
