Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his alleged remarks in the United States against the BJP-led government and the Election Commission, accusing Gandhi of defaming India abroad out of frustration over repeated election defeats.

Chouhan, the BJP's Jharkhand election in-charge, arrived in Ranchi for a party meeting related to its proposed 'Parivartan Rally' later this month. Addressing reporters, Chouhan said, 'Only a frustrated person can defame the country and spoil its image abroad. Raising questions about the government and Election Commission is not a patriotic act.'

He drew a comparison between Gandhi and former opposition leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who, according to Chouhan, upheld the country's dignity abroad. Gandhi had alleged at Georgetown University that the recent Lok Sabha elections were biased to favor Prime Minister Modi, claiming the Election Commission was complicit.
