West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the Centre and Left parties of orchestrating a conspiracy against her amid ongoing protests over the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital. Banerjee urged the public to focus on upcoming Durga Puja festivities.

The remarks sparked backlash on the anniversary of the crime, with the victim's family labeling them as insensitive. In a state secretariat meeting at 'Nabanna', Banerjee refuted claims of offering monetary compensation to the deceased doctor's family, terming them 'slanderous lies'.

The BJP demanded her resignation, with calls for the city Police Commissioner's expulsion over the case's 'mishandling'. Banerjee revealed the commissioner had offered to resign but was persuaded to stay due to Durga Puja. She emphasized the need for normalcy and urged resumption of daily activities.
