The BJP on Monday demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, claiming that her ''dirty face'' was exposed by the Supreme Court during a case hearing on the rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor in Kolkata.

The demand followed the Supreme Court's concern over the absence of a critical document required for the postmortem of the victim from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and its order for a CBI investigation.

A bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud pointed out a 14-hour delay by Kolkata Police in filing an FIR and instructed the CBI to submit a new report by September 17.

''The Supreme Court has revealed the dirty face of Mamata Banerjee. The CJI questioned the missing postmortem challan,'' said BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia at a press conference.

He accused Banerjee of being a ''liar'' and destroying evidence.

Bhatia suggested that the postmortem challan might have been excluded to protect Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of the RG Kar Medical College, and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.

The CBI arrested Dr. Ghosh on September 2 for alleged financial misconduct.

At the press conference, Bhatia criticized the limited CCTV footage provided to the CBI and demanded Banerjee's resignation to ensure an impartial investigation and justice for the victim's family. He also called for the dismissal of the Kolkata police commissioner.
