On Monday, junior doctors in Kolkata rallied to the police headquarters, Lalbazar, demanding the resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. They were halted at BB Ganguly Street by police.
Starting an impromptu sit-in around 5 PM, the doctors demanded Goyal come to meet them, alleging police inaction during the August 14 vandalism at RG Kar Medical College.
While police suggested a 20-member delegation to meet senior officers, the standoff persists as both sides remain firm. Jubilations erupted when news of the ex-principal of RG Kar Hospital's arrest by the CBI reached the protesters. The demonstrators emphasized police duty to protect citizens, carrying the national flag, placards, a replica of a spine, and red roses.
