Former TMC leader Ripun Bora on Sunday rejoined Congress in Charaideo, Assam, referring to the party as his old home. He has returned, he said, to fight against the corrupt and fascist Bharatiya Janata Party and to make Assam liveable.
"Congress is my old home and today I have returned to my home. I was in TMC for two years. The kind of environment that is there in Assam and the entire country, the need of the hour is to unite against the corrupt, fascist and anti-people BJP to uproot the BJP from Assam to make it liveable. Hence, along with 36 office bearers of the Assam state committee (TMC), I have joined Congress to strengthen it," said Ripun Bora.
Earlier this month, Bora resigned from TMC, citing the public perception of TMC as a regional party. He highlighted that the people of Assam respect Mamata Banerjee but are reluctant to accept TMC, viewing it as a Bengali regional party. Bora emphasized the need for an Assamese leader at the national level and proposed measures to counter TMC's regional image, such as declaring the residence of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika a heritage site and transforming Madhupur Satra at Cooch Behar into a cultural hub. Amid these challenges, Bora felt compelled to part ways with TMC.
