The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a plea by a West Bengal-based lawyer alleging harassment by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. The lawyer, who has been representing victims in cases related to crimes against women and land-grabbing, claimed she is being targeted and faces false charges and harassment.
The petitioner sought the transfer of these matters outside West Bengal, stating she fears for her safety and that of her parents, who are also allegedly being harassed by police. She claimed that witnesses have been influenced and evidence tampered with.
A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan advised her to approach the Calcutta High Court with her grievances. Reaffirming its confidence in the high court's ability to handle such cases, the bench dismissed her plea. ''Thank you. Dismissed,'' said the bench.
