A senior U.S. intelligence official revealed that Russian state media outlet RT is using American and other personalities to influence U.S. voters in favor of Donald Trump. Two RT employees were charged with money laundering in a scheme to produce content aimed at swaying voter preferences. Russia, China, and Iran are actively seeking to influence U.S. elections.
A senior U.S. intelligence official has revealed that Russian state media outlet RT is employing American and other public figures to sway U.S. voters towards supporting Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump over his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris.
This official's statement came during a briefing on alleged foreign interference in the upcoming November presidential election, part of an extensive U.S. government effort to counteract such activities. U.S. officials have charged two RT employees with money laundering, accusing them of participating in a scheme for an American firm to produce online content intended to influence the vote.
According to the official, these actions underscore Russia's use of private Russian firms and RT to covertly amplify domestic divisions and push for their desired election outcomes. RT responded dismissively to the charges, while the Russian embassy in Washington declined to comment. The official also noted that Russia is the most active foreign adversary in this context, with China focusing on local-level races and Iran increasing its past efforts to sway voters.
