Trump's Legal Battle: Appeals Court Hears Arguments to Overturn $5M Verdict
A lawyer for Donald Trump is urging an appeals court to overturn a $5 million verdict holding him liable for sexually assaulting and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll. The case rests on the admissibility of testimony from two other women and a contentious 'Access Hollywood' video.
A lawyer for Donald Trump has called on an appeals court to overturn a $5 million verdict that found Trump liable for sexually assaulting and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll. Trump's lawyer argued that testimonies from two other women were improperly admitted at trial.
The court session focused on the admissibility of testimonies from two women who alleged mistreatment by Trump decades ago. The defense also objected to the jury seeing a 2005 'Access Hollywood' video where Trump made graphic comments.
The panel of three judges, all appointed by Democratic presidents, will decide whether to uphold the May 2023 verdict. Trump, who attended the hearing, denied wrongdoing and labeled the case a 'ridiculous political interference.' Carroll attended but did not speak to reporters.
