Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during its ongoing membership drive, his wife and party legislator, Rivaba Jadeja, confirmed.
Rivaba took to X on Thursday to share photographs of Jadeja's membership card and hers, tagged with the hashtag 'Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024'.
Speaking to reporters, Rivaba mentioned that Jadeja's decision to join the BJP was part of a nationwide membership initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who renewed his membership on September 2 in New Delhi.
The seasoned Indian all-rounder recently retired from T20 Internationals after India's T20 World Cup victory over South Africa in June.
Rivaba stated, 'The BJP has grown into the world's largest party through its membership drive. To convince others to join, we decided to begin within our family by enrolling my husband as a primary member, kickstarting the drive in Jamnagar.'
Rivaba herself joined the BJP in 2019 and secured a notable win in the 2022 state elections from the Jamnagar North assembly seat, defeating the AAP candidate by a margin of over 50,000 votes.
