U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken declared on Thursday that it is imperative for both Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas to agree on the remaining issues to secure a Gaza ceasefire. Blinken highlighted that while 90% of the agreement is settled, unresolved critical issues such as the Philadelphi corridor on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip bordering Egypt remain.

During a press briefing in Haiti, Blinken mentioned that gaps still exist concerning the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. He is hopeful that in the coming days, solutions will be discussed and put forward by Israel, Hamas, and mediators Qatar and Egypt.

Despite President Joe Biden's three-phase ceasefire proposal laid out on May 31, final agreements have been elusive. The recent conflict, ignited by Hamas's attack on Israel in October, has resulted in severe casualties and displacement on both sides.
