India and Singapore took a significant step in their diplomatic relations by establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on Thursday. The nations signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), including one on semiconductor cooperation, during a meeting between Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Lawrence Wong.
In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the elevation in ties, noting that the two leaders covered an expansive range of bilateral issues such as advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalisation, and healthcare. The partnership aims to enhance trade and investment flows while boosting collaboration in critical technologies.
This visit marks Modi's first meeting with Wong since he became Singapore's Prime Minister. Modi also extended an invitation to Wong to visit India, which he accepted. Both leaders stressed the importance of green corridor projects and agreed to increase connectivity between the two countries. The visit concludes Modi's tour after his historic visit to Brunei earlier this week.
