Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah on Wednesday called on the people of Jharkhand to resist the divisive rhetoric of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, labeling him as a "nasty politician." Speaking at a press conference in Lakhimpur, Borah appealed to Jharkhand voters to make their electoral choices with a clear conscience, untainted by Sarma's polarizing statements.

"Sarma is one of India's most nasty politicians," Borah asserted.

Borah criticized Sarma and the BJP's approach to border security and illegal migration, questioning their effectiveness. "While Sarma talks about demographic changes in Jharkhand due to Bangladeshi influx, what measures has the BJP taken to secure our borders? What has Sarma done to tackle illegal migration in Assam?" he queried.

The Congress leader accused Sarma of political "horse trading," alleging that Sarma had already garnered support from former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren and was seeking more allies. "If the BJP believes sending Sarma to Jharkhand will ensure a win, they are mistaken. Look at his track record in Karnataka, Telangana, and elsewhere, where the BJP suffered significant losses," he claimed.

Borah also highlighted Sarma's disappointing tenure in Assam, marked by inflammatory statements against Muslims, creating a toxic atmosphere of hatred and division. He criticized Sarma for making unsubstantiated, insensitive, and provocative comments.

According to Borah, the law and order situation in Assam has deteriorated under Sarma's governance, with a rise in crimes, violence, and unrest exposing his failure to maintain peace and stability. He further alleged that Assam's economy is in disarray, relying on loans while Sarma's family purportedly accumulates wealth through questionable means.

"Sarma's government has failed to deliver on key promises related to education, healthcare, flood management, and job creation. Meanwhile, his family's wealth has grown exponentially, raising suspicions of corruption and cronyism," Borah concluded.
