During a two-day visit to India, Gerard Mestrallet, special envoy for the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC), emphasized the significance of this project as part of the European Union's 'Global Gateway' strategy. France aims to bolster cooperation with India on key areas like low carbon energies, digital data, and port partnerships.
Mestrallet's visit involved a comprehensive evaluation of New Delhi's infrastructure and development plans, particularly focusing on Mundra port. France, the first signatory country to appoint a dedicated special envoy for the IMEEC, is committed to facilitating the project's pre-implementation phase together with Indian officials and companies.
The envisioned corridor aims to create seamless rail and shipping networks between India, the Middle East, and Europe, enhancing trade accessibility and economic partnership. As IMEEC aims to rival China's Belt and Road Initiative, France's involvement underscores the strategic importance of this transnational project.
