The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) declared on Monday that it supports collecting data on specific communities and castes, provided the data is used for their welfare and not for political gain.
Following a three-day coordination conclave in this district, Sunil Ambekar, RSS's Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, underscored that caste and caste-relations are sensitive issues crucial to national unity. He emphasized the importance of handling the issue seriously and not merely through the lens of elections or politics.
Ambekar's comments came in response to questions about a caste census. He stated, 'For all welfare activities, it's essential to identify and support communities or castes lagging behind. The government needs accurate data for this purpose, and it's a well-established practice. It's acceptable as long as it addresses welfare and is not exploited for political purposes.' He cautioned against using such data as a political tool.
