Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday for the recent surge in violence, drone attacks, and grenade incidents in Manipur. In a post on X, Kharge described Modi's inability to address the crisis as 'unforgivable.'

Kharge cited the sentiments of former Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, who echoed the distress of Manipur's residents. Kharge criticized Modi for not visiting Manipur even once in the past 16 months, despite ongoing violence. He condemned the state's Chief Minister for his incompetence and pointed out that the Unified Command's security operations are currently managed by a team from the Union Home Ministry, state security advisors, and the Indian Army.

Blaming both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister for neglecting their constitutional duties, Kharge pointed out the national security threat posed by the escalating violence. He called for the immediate dismissal of Manipur's Chief Minister and a rigorous crackdown on insurgent groups. Kharge emphasized the urgency for an expedited investigation into the ethnic violence by a Supreme Court-mandated commission. He urged the Modi government not to misuse central investigative agencies and demanded immediate efforts to restore peace by involving all political parties and community representatives.

Earlier, hundreds of students from schools, colleges, and universities in Imphal marched towards Raj Bhavan, demanding the resignation of high-ranking officials including the Director General of Police and the Security Advisor. They also called for the withdrawal of paramilitary forces and the resignation of 50 MLAs on moral grounds. The students carried banners and posters as they protested.
