Controversy continues to deepen in Jharkhand over conflicting reports on the number of deaths during the ongoing excise constable physical tests. Health Minister Banna Gupta on Monday stated that only four aspirants had died, directly contradicting state police reports which mention 12 casualties.
Gupta expressed doubts about the figures being circulated, asserting, 'Where are these figures coming from? These are not authentic. A total of four persons have died.' He attributed the deaths to an increase in cardiac issues post-Covid and urged adherence to exercise according to individual capacity.
The physical tests, which began on August 22 and will run until September 9, have so far seen 127,772 participants, 78,023 of whom have successfully passed. While the police maintain that 12 participants have died, the Chief Minister has called for an investigation into the exact causes, including an examination of health conditions and logistics.
