Military Trial of Imran Khan: A Possibility Says Defence Minister Khawaja Asif

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has accused Khan of orchestrating the unrest. Civilian trials by military courts are being contested in the Supreme Court.

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has confirmed the possibility of a military trial for jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan in connection with the May 9, 2023, violence.
During a Geo News programme, Asif mentioned that military trials of civilians occurred during Khan's tenure, citing 24 instances. The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has repeatedly hinted at such a trial.
The arrest of Khan last year led to violent protests, with his supporters allegedly attacking military installations. The Supreme Court has not yet decided on the matter of civilian trials by military courts.
