The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of kidnapping party councillor Ram Chandra, who represents Bawana's Shahabad Dairy in the municipal corporation. The BJP swiftly denied the allegations and accused AAP of engaging in 'fake sensationalism.' Ram Chandra had recently rejoined AAP after briefly aligning with the BJP.

In a video message, Chandra claimed that several BJP men forcibly picked him up. 'I am a municipal councillor from Bawana Ward 28. In the morning, five or six people came to my house and took me to the BJP office in a car. There they threatened me with CBI and ED. They said something wrong will happen to you. After my son and the senior leader of the party dialled the police, they dropped me at my place,' Chandra said.

Senior AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh alleged the abduction was a tactic used by BJP to intimidate him. 'BJP threatened councillor ji with ED and CBI. When he did not get scared, BJP goons took him away in a car,' Sisodia posted on X. Sanjay Singh also shared a video of Chandra's son, Akash, alleging the abduction.

In contrast, the BJP denied the charges, terming them baseless. Delhi BJP's media in-charge Praveen Shankar Kapoor stated, 'You guys are the kings of fake sensationalism. Councillor Ram Chandra is not in your party. We have nothing to do with it; he is sitting in his house and you people are spreading rumours.'

This incident occurs as Delhi gears up for its 2025 assembly elections. AAP had secured a decisive victory in the 2020 polls, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP won 8 seats, and Congress failed to secure any.
