Two BJP councillors from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) staged a walk-out, protesting the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital earlier this month.
The councillors, Sajal Ghosh and Vijay Ojha, are pushing for stricter actions. Meanwhile, Mayor Firhad Hakim criticized the BJP's approach as mere theatrics.
Hakim urged BJP MLAs to support an upcoming bill in the West Bengal Assembly that seeks capital punishment for convicted rapists. The BJP currently holds three seats in the KMC compared to TMC's 134.
