JMM legislator from Ghatshila, Ramdas Soren, is on course to replace Champai Soren in the Jharkhand cabinet, an official revealed on Thursday.

This development follows the resignation of Champai Soren, a former chief minister, from the JMM along with his positions as minister and MLA on Wednesday. He is slated to join the BJP on Friday. According to a source who requested anonymity, 'Ghatshila MLA Ramdas Soren will replace Champai Soren. The oath ceremony is likely to be held in the Raj Bhavan tomorrow.'

Champai Soren, who had been sworn in as a minister in the Hemant Soren cabinet last month, quit the JMM on Wednesday. He cited the party's current style of functioning and policies as reasons for his departure after many years of service. Champai also resigned from the state assembly and as a minister in the Jharkhand Cabinet.

Champai Soren assumed the role of chief minister of Jharkhand on February 2, following Hemant Soren's resignation amid an ED inquiry into a money laundering case. Champai later stepped down, and Hemant reassumed the CM post in July after being released on bail.
